There is nothing permanent except change – Heraclitus

Thursday was dedicated to Edenhurst’s Prize Giving and Speech Day. What an event! A wonderful opportunity to bring the whole school community together to reflect upon and celebrate everything that has been achieved by our pupils over the last academic year. Their courage, perseverance and resilience continues to astound me every single day.

Our Guest of Honour this year was Mrs Rebecca Harrison, Headteacher at St. Dominic’s Priory School.  As well as congratulating our pupils, handing out an abundance of trophies, shields and prizes she spoke to us about the importance of doing something every day, no matter how small, that makes you feel proud.

This year’s theme was ‘Change’ and it made my heart sing to see each member of Prep 6 confidently take to the stage and deliver a speech, personally reflecting upon their time at Edenhurst. Let’s not forget that some of these pupils have been part of our school community since the Baby Room and though we are immensely sad to see them move on we are exceptionally proud of the well rounded, well grounded young people they have become. They definitely have the ‘Edenhurst Edge’, that little bit extra that makes them stand out from the crowd and I know they will continue to grow and flourish in their new setting.

As we approach the end of another successful and busy school year, it is only natural that we start to look ahead and plan for the future.  Last week I was delighted to share information regarding our upcoming Transition Morning as well as Staffing and room allocations.

Change. Just when life seems to be on an even keel, something comes along that sends you in a completely different direction. Some changes are planned, like leaving school, switching  jobs or moving house, but often these life-altering moments come along unexpectedly. Change can be happy and exciting as well as sad, messy and rather complicated. But change is not a bad thing. Once embraced, it has the power to challenge and shape us into more resilient human beings, not only surviving the curveballs life has a tendency to throw at us but actually thriving despite them.

As I sign off for the year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank staff, pupils and parents for welcoming me into the Edenhurst family.  It has certainly been a year of change for me both professionally and personally – your support has been invaluable as together we have learnt to navigate the ‘new normal’. To me, that’s what being part of a community is all about.

Wishing everyone a happy and safe summer break. I look forward to welcoming you back to school on Wednesday 6th September and hearing all about your wonderful adventures and experiences.. In the meantime, parents, tag! You’re it!
