It’s a phrase we often use – among staff, in assemblies, and with families exploring our school for the first time: the Edenhurst Edge. But what does it actually mean? The Edenhurst Edge is more than just a tagline – it’s a lived reality. A combination of culture, character, opportunity, and care. It’s what makes an Edenhurst pupil stand just a little taller, and walk out into the world ready for all that lies ahead.
At Edenhurst, we value academic rigour, but we know it’s just one part of a truly excellent education. The Edenhurst Edge can’t be measured by results alone – it’s seen in how our pupils think, how they interact, and how they grow.
Already, over the 4 (exceedingly short!) weeks of this Trinity half-term, our pupils have thrown themselves into every opportunity with real enthusiasm. We’ve celebrated Maths Day with problem-solving and teamwork; we’ve explored legends and landscapes on a magical trip to Sherwood Forest. Drama rehearsals are in full swing for the Prep Form Play, whilst our ICT workshops with Adam Atkinson, Bellevue’s Head of Digital, inspired a new wave of coding confidence. Each of these experiences stretches our pupils, builds independence, and enriches their learning.
Ask any Edenhurst pupil what they love most about school, and chances are you’ll hear about one of the many extra-curricular activities that give our days so much variety and joy. Whether it’s acting in drama club, finding calm in meditation, racing in mixed sports, mastering a move in judo, or learning the craft of knitting, our pupils are always discovering new passions. We offer LEGO construction, Junior Duke challenges, football, darts, drawing, dance, skiing, and more……the breadth of these activities reflects our belief in educating the whole child.
These clubs aren’t just offered as an extra, they’re an essential part of what makes an Edenhurst education so rich and distinctive. They encourage our pupils to take risks, discover strengths, and build friendships across year groups. And that’s before we even mention the magic happening daily in our Little Edenhurst nursery, where the Edenhurst journey truly begins.
The Edenhurst Edge is nurtured not just by our staff, but by the whole community. One of our most popular monthly events, Lunch Club, embodies this spirit. It’s a simple yet powerful idea: inviting family and friends into school to dine alongside our pupils. There’s something special about sharing a meal at your child’s school – hearing about their day, chatting with staff, and experiencing first-hand the warmth of the Edenhurst environment. It’s these small moments that help weave families into the fabric of school life, making children feel even more valued and supported.
At Edenhurst, we are proudly and intentionally, a Prep School. That means we don’t just prepare children for the senior school of their choice, we prepare them for life. From the courage to try something new at Camp Edenhurst to the poise shown at the Cheltenham College Team Challenges Tournament, we help our pupils grow into confident, considerate young people.
They’ve already had the chance to shine in so many ways this term: dazzling in Edenhurst’s Got Talent, performing beautifully in the Form 1 and 2 play Dumble the Dinosaur, taking part in ISA cricket matches, and participating in a swimming gala with our northern sister schools. A visit from the New Vic Theatre Company sparked their creativity, and a look around Warner Bros Studios gave our pupils a glimpse of how imagination can become an industry.
The Edenhurst Edge is not brash or boastful. It’s a quiet strength. The kind you notice when a child holds the door open, thanks our wonderful catering staff, or gives a supportive word to a nervous peer. It’s evident in the way they communicate – respectfully, confidently, thoughtfully. It is nurtured every day in the culture we create together: one of high expectations and deep care.
An Edenhurst pupil is so much more than a learner. They are a listener, a helper, a thinker, a teammate, a leader. They know the value of kindness, the importance of perseverance, and the power of curiosity. Whether they’re on the sports field, the stage, in a workshop, or at Lunch Club with family, they carry themselves with a quiet confidence that speaks volumes.
That’s the Edenhurst Edge.
Wishing the Edenhurst community a safe and happy half-term break. I look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 2nd June for what promises to be an exceptionally busy final 6 weeks of the academic year. We wouldn’t want it any other way!
