Celebrating Women and Girls in Science

Posted: 13th February 2026

Science is a subject that, in some parts of the world, is still inaccessible to females or where career progression within STEM jobs (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) can be challenging.

The United Nations is trying to help address this inequality with a day dedicated to celebrating females in science-related jobs: ‘The International Day of Women and Girls in Science’.

Not only does this day celebrate the work of females in science-related subjects, it also aims to encourage and inspire them to work in all STEM-related fields with an emphasis on promoting fairness and equality in their access to the subjects and their achievements across the world. As a female scientist, I have always been treated fairly and respectfully throughout my career, which is why I am so passionate about instilling that in the children I teach.

All children at Edenhurst are given the confidence and opportunity to experiment and investigate in their science lessons, providing them with the foundations to hopefully continue to love the subject when they move onto high school. So…since we are celebrating females in science this month, here are some photos of our amazing Edenhurst female scientists during their recent science lessons exploring a range of topics from rocks and their properties, electricity and circuits, and science skills.
