Prep 6 WWII Experience Day at the Brampton Museum

Posted: 12th February 2025

Prep 6 had an immersive and educational experience during their WWII Day at the Brampton Museum. The pupils took part in a range of activities, starting with an evacuee experience where they learned what to pack in their suitcases. They also enjoyed traditional games and activities, including a visit to the picture house and mixing flour and water to make glue for crafts!

Using primary sources and maps, the children learned about the bombs dropped on Chesterton and how this impacted evacuees. They also underwent ARP Warden training, where they learned about blackout safety and basic first aid skills.

The day was made even more exciting as the pupils had the chance to handle historical artefacts, such as gas masks and replicas of incendiary bombs, along with a piece of real bomb fragment from an explosion on Keele Road. The experience concluded with an air raid simulation, where the pupils hid in an Anderson shelter, played bingo, and sang songs to raise morale.

It was a day full of learning and fun, providing a fascinating glimpse into life during WWII!
