Delivered by our specialist language teacher, French lessons begin in the Nursery and continue throughout the School. Every child is encouraged to make a positive contribution in lessons, working both as an individual and in pairs/groups, and participating in games and role-plays. Using their French language skills in this way helps to consolidate the children’s vocabulary, and improves both pronunciation and confidence. In the Prep Forms, the children use the highly-regarded ICT programme, 'Linguascope' to further develop their knowledge of grammar and vocabulary.
Pupils in Preps 4, 5 and 6 have the opportunity to participate in the residential trip to Normandy, France. During this 5-day trip, pupils have the opportunity to communicate with French nationals, not only improving their grammar, but also learning to understand and appreciate a different country and its culture. Their experiences include a visit to the D-Day landing beaches, visiting a market town, the Bayeux Tapestry, taking part in outdoor activities at the chateau where we stay - and sampling delicious French food!
