Music has played a huge part of my life from a very early age. I always knew I wanted a career in music. After completing my B.A.(hons) degree in Music at Huddersfield University I went on to study my Post Graduate Diploma at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, specialising in clarinet under the guidance of John Cushing who was the principal clarinettist in the Royal Scottish Orchestra. I played professionally for several years with Scottish Ballet Orchestra, Scottish Opera, and the Royal Scottish Orchestra as well as playing in numerous theatrical shows. I discovered my love of teaching whilst in Scotland and had the privilege of teaching at several private schools as well as working for Fife Council as a woodwind specialist. After returning to Stoke-on-Trent in 2001 I taught at Edenhurst and Denstone College for a couple of years before being offered a full time post with Staffordshire County Council teaching Clarinet and Saxophone. In 2016 I had the privilege of being offered the position of Director of Music at Edenhurst and the rest is history.
A position I absolutely love.
I have two grown up boys who have now fled the nest and have their own successful careers. Music takes up most of my time but I love to swim, play squash and badminton( when I was younger!), and I love dogs.
I love to read when I have time and spending time in Barmouth in our caravan.
Random fact about me:
I have swam on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, been on a zip wire and experienced white water rafting in Bala.
I have performed for Princess Diana and played at the Royal Albert Hall.
I have flown in a 2 seater Cessna and hopefully next year will get to fly in a chase plane and watch my Dad fly in a Spitfire.
