The months of December and January usually bring snow, ice and chilly winds which lend themselves ideally to learning about Winter and Cold Lands in the Nursery.
If we are lucky, we have enough snow to explore outside from Babies to Early Learners. The children love making snowmen or sledging and even just making footprints. Wearing lots of layers is a must for this which helps the children with their self care skills.
The Babies have loved exploring gloop this month with the arctic animals and painting with winter colours. Sensory experiences are plentiful in the Baby Room to develop the Babies’ curiosity.
The Toddlers have also been developing their imaginations to create their own snow using different materials including shredded paper and whipped cream. Some children couldn’t resist a sneaky taste!
Once the children reach the Early Learners simple science is introduced. The children really enjoyed freezing some animals in water and making predictions as to what could cause them to melt. Each icy animal was placed in different areas such as by the radiator or outside and the time taken for it to melt was measured. Making learning fun and enjoyable is a must in our pre-school class!
