Children usually make the transition from the Nursery to Reception in the September after their fourth birthday. In Reception we follow a more structured programme, allowing the children to move onto National Curriculum work when they are ready. Regular reading and spelling homework offers parents an ideal opportunity to be involved in their child’s education.
Class sizes are small, averaging around 16 children, which allows for a very advantageous pupil to adult ratio. This ensures that your child’s talents and interests are recognised, nurtured and encouraged.
Children in Reception also study French, Music, P.E. and Swimming with specialist members of the school staff. Our main priority is to make the first School year both enjoyable and productive. There are still lots of opportunities for play, and the classes make regular trips outside school to museums or other centres of interest. Visitors to the classroom provide extra depth to topics studied through the year.
