Character Education

Character Education at Edenhurst

At Edenhurst, we believe that a truly excellent education nurtures not only the mind, but the whole character. Guided by the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues, our approach ensures that every child develops the qualities needed to make informed, thoughtful, and compassionate choices – both now and in the future.

Character Education is taught explicitly through weekly lessons, and is also lived implicitly through the relationships, routines and expectations that shape our school every day. In this way, character is caught, taught and sought – embedded in the culture, language and opportunities our pupils experience.

This academic year, the Edenhurst community have chosen to concentrate on four core virtues that we believe underpin our school ethos and guide our pupils:

  • Reflection (Intellectual Virtue)
Helping pupils to think deeply, evaluate choices and understand themselves as learners.

  • Respect (Moral Virtue)
Encouraging kindness, empathy and integrity in interactions and decision-making.

  • Service (Civic Virtue)
Inspiring pupils to contribute positively to others and recognise their place in a wider community.

  • Determination (Performance Virtue)
Developing resilience, perseverance and confidence when faced with challenges.

These virtues feed into all aspects of life, both at school and beyond. They support children to become resilient learners, thoughtful friends and responsible citizens.

Our aim is to help pupils develop phronesis –  the wisdom to know the right thing to do, at the right time, for the right reason – preparing them not only for academic success, but for a flourishing life beyond Edenhurst.
