What an amazing array of costumes were on display during World Book Day! Characters from a wide range of books filled the school, and everyone had made a fantastic effort with their outfit including the staff.
The day began with a fun quiz in which the children listened to stories read by different mystery readers before trying to guess who they were. The reader could be either a pupil or a member of staff, and there was certainly some very dramatic storytelling!
This was followed by an engaging question-and-answer session with a local author, who even read an excerpt from her first published story. At breaktime, the children had the opportunity to bring in a book they had already read and swap it for a new one, which led to many of them getting new books that they might not have considered reading before.
Later, the children created their own “book monsters” with a mini book cover inspired by their favourite story. The rest of the day was themed around ‘Alice in Wonderland’. The dining hall was transformed at lunchtime into the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, complete with delicious “Eat Me” sandwiches and small cakes with juice. To round off the afternoon, the children took part in an arts and crafts session, again inspired by Alice in Wonderland, resulting in a wonderful display of their creative work. A joyous day enjoyed by all!
