Head Pupil Blog: Remembrance Service

Posted: 12th November 2025

On the 11th of November we all gathered at St Giles’ church to honour all the brave soldiers who have fought for us in WW1 and WW2. They risked their lives for us and for this country, for its FREEDOM and this is how we started the Remembrance Service. I recited a beautiful poem –  ‘Flanders Fields’ –  about the pretty poppies spread all around the field after the disastrous war. What a miracle! The rest of Prep 6 also did readings. Then the organ played its marvellous music and I placed the poppy wreath on the altar and bowed down as a sign of respect. We sang a hymn with the organ once again before leaving the church to go to the war memorial. At 11:00am we held a 2 minute silence outside with the local community, and I placed the poppy wreath on the war memorial.
