Head’s Blog: Sparkle and Spirit

Posted: 12th December 2024

Wow, what a half-term it’s been here at Edenhurst! The energy has been electric and I couldn’t be prouder of the enthusiasm, resilience and spirit our pupils have shown. From cherished community events to captivating performances, creative competitions and thrilling sports, every pupil has thrown themselves into the packed schedule. That Edenhurst Edge has been shining as brightly as ever! Here’s a look back at all the incredible experiences we’ve shared and the memories we’ve made along the way.

The Edenhurst family began this half-term with a deep sense of community. Pupils were honoured to participate in the Remembrance Service at St. Giles Church, showing respect and reflection in a heartwarming display of unity. A big thank you goes to all who attended and represented Edenhurst so admirably.

We’ve also been delighted to welcome an array of special visitors into our school. Altru Drama kicked off our Anti-Bullying Week with a powerful performance of Superhero School, reminding everyone about the strength in kindness and courage. PC Moffat from Staffordshire Police gave an invaluable session on online safety, a topic that grows more essential every year. And Ms. Wadham from Caudwell Children inspired us with her insights into the incredible work the organisation does to support families. Plus, Mrs. Tulloch, Headmistress at Denstone College, shared her educational journey, inspiring many of our older pupils. Parents even got in on the action during our ever-popular Parent Lunch Club (a delicious chicken curry – thanks Jen!), which brings our school community closer with every bite.

This term, we were thrilled to welcome back Mr. Atkinson, Bellevue’s Head of Digital, who ran hands-on coding workshops for both pupils and parents. From building games to mastering problem-solving techniques, the workshop sparked a wave of excitement and curiosity, proving that our future coders are in the making.

Prep 6 took on the time honoured task of selecting our school’s Christmas Trees (and having a well-deserved hot chocolate) from Keele Christmas Tree Farm. There’s nothing like the joy of finding that perfect tree and the holiday spirit was officially set in motion by their festive choices.

It wouldn’t be Edenhurst without a dash of adventure! Pupils enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Potteries Museum, where they explored history and art up close. Our sports teams took their skills on the road, competing in netball, hockey and football matches both home and away. Win or lose, our players brought resilience and sportsmanship to every game.

Meanwhile, creativity was in full bloom as pupils entered poetry and speech competitions, expressing themselves in ways that continue to amaze me as they took to the stage, showcasing their confidence and passion.

With so many activities on offer, every pupil has found something to ignite their interests. From chess and dance to meditation, Junior Duke and Warhammer club, pupils have been exploring new hobbies and skills outside the classroom. Their dedication to these clubs has built friendships and new passions, and I’m thrilled to see such diversity in interests emerging.

As December rolled around, the festive spirit hit Edenhurst in full force. The EPTA Christmas Fair brought families and friends together for an afternoon of fun, while our nativity and carol service at St. John’s, Keele, filled the air with warmth and cheer. Christmas Lunch and Jumper Day brought smiles all around, especially with a surprise visit from Santa himself! The Christmas Crafternoon turned out to be one of the stickiest, sparkliest events of the year, and pupils let their creativity run wild as they crafted beautiful keepsakes. Choir performances at Belong and Royal Stoke Hospital added a special touch to the season, bringing music and joy to others in the local community.

Amidst all this excitement, the Edenhurst commitment to a stimulating, well-rounded education has remained unwavering. Staff have continued to challenge and inspire pupils, blending rigorous academics with the enrichment activities that make Edenhurst such a vibrant place to learn and grow. I couldn’t be prouder of our pupils’ accomplishments and their unwavering school spirit. Every pupil has contributed to making this term unforgettable, proving that there’s nothing we can’t achieve when we put our hearts into it.

As we find ourselves immersed in the festive season, I want to acknowledge that while this is a time of joy for many, it can also be emotional for those missing loved ones, myself included. Please remember that our school community is here to support one another, and I hope this holiday brings moments of peace and connection for you, your family and friends.

I wish the whole Edenhurst community a merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year. Here’s to a joyful and restful break and to all the adventures that await us in 2025.
