We’re thrilled to welcome Mrs Damani as our new Head of English at Edenhurst! With a passion for literature and a love for developing a reading culture, she’s excited to bring her expertise and enthusiasm to our Prep 4-6 English classes.
Your role at Edenhurst
I am the new Head of English and I will be teaching Prep 4-6 English classes.
Your previous career background
I worked in Year 5 at a primary school in Tunstall before taking a few years away from teaching to raise my two daughters. I have always wanted to be a teacher so did my PGCE straight after my undergraduate degree. Whilst at university, I worked as an SEN 1-1 support worker for a child with additional needs. As well as working at Edenhurst, I will also be continuing my current role as a Reading Content Creator for Grammarsaurus. As part of a team, I write and create the model reading texts, comprehension crushers and other reading texts which we will now be using in school!
Your professional qualifications and interests
I have a BA in English with a minor in Creative Writing from the University of Nottingham. I did my PGCE at Keele University – where I met Mr Damani! I specialised in English during my teacher training.
What you are looking forward to most about working at Edenhurst
So many things! I am looking forward to spending every day discussing and reading books and poetry with the children and really promoting a love of reading throughout the school. I already love the ‘family feeling’ and small, close community and I am excited to get to know everyone!
Any interests / activities you enjoy outside of work
I have two young daughters so lots of my activities are family ones – we love exploring outdoors, being creative with lots of paint and glitter and (of course!) reading a lot of books and visiting libraries and bookshops! I love reading and I also write poetry which I sometimes submit to different competitions if I feel brave enough! I also go to a monthly painting class and I enjoy cross stitching.
