On a lovely sunny June Wednesday, Prep 4 travelled to the picturesque Manifold Valley in the Peak District for a day of cycling fun.
We travelled eight kilometres down the cycle trail towards Wetton Mill tearooms and we passed many cows and sheep who were happily minding their own business, not anticipating fifteen lively eight and nine year olds would be careering past them! We also had a good look up to Thor’s Cave along the way.
We enjoyed a delicious alfresco packed lunch by the riverside at Wetton Mill, with some of us having to defend our lunches from some very determined ducks. After lunch, we bought ice creams and souvenirs from the tearoom, then headed back for our return eight kilometres.
Despite quite a lot of saddle-sore, some nettle bush tumbles and Mrs Nash having to put numerous bike chains back on, the day was wonderful and we all had a great time.
The cycle trail is well worth a visit if you have not been before as it is flat and child-friendly and we hired our bikes from Brown End farm in Waterhouses. Many thanks to Mrs Whitmore for organising such a treat for us all.
