Headteacher’s Blog: February 2023

Growth Mindset is very much part of our school culture and the focus this half-term has been risk taking. Risk taking is a crucial component of both personal and academic growth.

At Edenhurst our pupils are encouraged to be open-minded and curious and to actively seek out new opportunities. They are inspired to be courageous, to try something new and challenge themselves. As well as providing a safe and supportive learning environment we offer our pupils a wide range of extracurricular activities, clubs and trips. They are given a chance to discover their strengths and weaknesses, learn from their experiences and consequently develop essential life skills such as perseverance and resilience.

Prep 5 interviewed me recently and I stand by my comment that teaching is the best job in the world. What other occupation allows you to witness a child, first hand, grow in confidence, make progress and achieve their goal?

As we head into the half-term break, I would like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly thank you all for the warm welcome I have received since my appointment in January. Edenhurst really is a very special school and it is a privilege to be part of the community. I was recently gifted the book ‘Big Panda and Tiny Dragon’ by James Norbury which I constantly dip in and out of. This is one of my favourite quotes:

‘Which is more important,’ asked Big Panda, ‘the journey or the destination?’

‘The company,’ said Tiny Dragon.

Over the coming months I look forward to working alongside pupils, parents and staff as, together, we continue along our journey, creating a positive and successful learning environment for everyone.

Wishing you all a safe, happy and rejuvenating break.
