Miss Turner – Reflections On My First Year

It’s unbelievable that Miss Turner has been with us almost a year – she started with us in January and, we are delighted to say, will be staying with us after Christmas.  Here she kindly shares some of her reflections on her first year in the classroom.

Starting at Edenhurst as a new teacher, I never imagined I would still be here completing my NQT year, almost a year later. The demands of teaching are varied, and adapting to the routines and expectations of life at Edenhurst was a big transition at first. Even in a school as small as Edenhurst, learning new names and faces took time!

The last year has flown by and in this time, I have been lucky enough to get to know some fantastic children, and work with the most dedicated, kind and skilled team of teachers and teaching assistants. These privileges aside, the highlight of my year has, without a doubt, been the growth I have seen in my class. Making the transition with them from Prep 3 into Prep 4 has been a privilege and the change I see in each and every one of them from this time last year is huge. I am proud of the kind, thoughtful and lively(!) individuals they show themselves to be every day, and I am proud of the efforts they show to work together as a team; to earn table points, to congratulate each other on their successes, and to support one another in their struggles. Needless to say, I am looking forward to seeing Prep 4 continue to fly as they move into their next term, and I am excited to begin the next chapter of my teaching career in the Edenhurst family.
