We went to Gladstone Pottery on a coach and when we got there we watched a video about Stoke-on-Trent pottery in the Victorian times. We found out that the air was dusty and dirty which wasn’t very healthy. Some children worked from the age of 5. The children were only paid 10 shillings (boys) and 6 shillings (girls) for a whole week. We enjoyed seeing pots and flowers being made by hand from clay and bone china.
After lunch, we were learning about Clarice Cliff. We became Clarice Cliff’s apprentices and we copied her designs onto plates. After that, we painted them.
The best bit of the day was the plate workshop!
