On Saturday 20th June, we welcomed ex-pupils, parents and staff to the School as part of our Alumni event.
It was very well attended with pupils from the 1960s to the recent leavers, along with members of staff covering a large proportion of those years too, including the second (after his Father and Mother) Headmaster, Mr Nick Copestick.
The school and grounds were open to visitors who spent a good couple of hours wandering around and reminiscing from their time here – lots of mixed emotions: happiness of times well spent and lasting friendships made, laughter of pranks committed and sadness that it is coming to an end and the number of children who will never experience the Edenhurst that we all know and love.
There were so many people pointing themselves out on the photographs and Honours Boards and creating a lovely atmosphere of togetherness, everyone had a tale to tell from the heartwarming, the laughable, to the ridiculous – we even had an impromptu rendition of the School Song, from three ‘Old Girls’ in the Hall (they were convinced that I didn’t know the words – I soon put that right!) and they were very pleased that it is still sung every year at the end of Speech Day – some traditions never die!

Guests were invited to take away photographs they found of themselves which they were very pleased about, with one ‘Old Boy’ setting himself up on the Museum (Reception classroom) floor and emptying boxes to find pictures of himself from the late 1980s/early 1990s – that caused a bit of a commotion!
All in all, it was a worthwhile, emotional, funny and heartwarming event and I was very proud and privileged to have been a part of it.
