On Friday 26th September, we held our very first Learn with the Lords session, live from the House of Lords in London.
As part of our ongoing commitment to inspire and educate our children in British values, we arranged to talk to a real life member of the House of Lords, Lord Jeff Rooker.
Lord Rooker has been a member of the House of Lords since 2016 and before that, he was a member of parliament for Labour for many years.
Children from Form 2 to Prep 6 had spent time researching the House of Lords and Lord Rooker and they all prepared questions that they would like to ask him. We had a wonderfully diverse range of questions from ‘What has been your greatest achievement?’ to ‘Is it pretty in the House of Lords?’. Lord Rooker answered all our questions with great interest and it was inspiring to hear about his journey into politics. He left school at 15, trained as an apprentice tool engineer and now sits in the House of Lords, truly inspirational.
Thank you for your time, Lord Rooker and watch this space for more activities (or even trips…!) with the UK Parliament.
