Pupil Blog: Prep 4 Science Learning

Posted: 12th December 2025

Our topic in Science this term has been the digestive system. We have learnt the vocabulary for all the body parts in the digestive system and we have learnt the process of digestion in the body.

Firstly, we chopped the food with a knife and fork to represent canines and incisors and then we mashed up the food with a masher to represent molars. We then scooped the food up with a spoon (tongue) and then we put the food through a tube (oesophagus).

Next, we pushed the food from the oesophagus into a jar which was the stomach. There is stomach acid in the stomach which kills the germs on the food. From the stomach, the food travels into the intestines. Bile and enzymes are in the intestines. We squeezed the mashed up food through a pair of tights all the way to the end which was sealed up. We cut the end of the intestines off and ‘poo’ came out!!

We enjoyed this topic because it was educational and fun, messy and memorable!
