“Did you really use to be a scientist?” and “You don’t look like a real scientist!” are some of the questions and comments that you get as a specialist science teacher at Edenhurst.  There is no better way to learn about science then plenty of hands-on activities, experiments and investigations to help children explore, question and develop an understanding about science.

This is the ethos for teaching science at Edenhurst, where the children are taught to be curious about science from their time in the Nursery, through the Pre-Prep forms with their form teachers and then through specialist science teaching in the Prep years.

Developing a positive attitude towards science learning starts during the primary years, so it is important to engage and enthuse the children by making learning fun, whilst still teaching them the important concepts that will set them up for their eventual journey into senior school. Children have a lot of questions, so an in-depth knowledge of science certainly helps!  A background as a working scientist also helps the children to learn how science is used in the real world and ideas can be explained in a way that inspires and fosters their interest.

One of the great things about Edenhurst is that the children in the Prep forms have access to a lab.  It provides a specialist room where the children quickly become accustomed to using different types of equipment and they develop excellent practical skills by learning through investigation.
