Forms 1 and 2: Key Stage 1 (5 – 7 year olds)
In Key Stage One we work closely with each and every child, in order to support them in further developing the skills and interests cultivated in the Early Years Foundation Stage. We cover the National Curriculum Programmes of Study extensively, and develop each individual’s confidence in the traditional “Three Rs”.
We believe that a passion for reading is one of the most valuable attributes we can foster in a young child. Children in Forms 1 and 2 read daily, and parents are invited to share in and encourage their child’s progress by listening to them read at home.
Spelling lessons are linked with the handwriting scheme, which encourages a joint script, and Maths lessons include the learning of tables within a structured system. Spelling and Maths learning is reinforced by small homework assignments and weekly tests, to monitor and support each individual’s progress.
As well as English and Maths, pupils in Key Stage One study Science, Geography, History, Religious Studies, Design Technology, Information Technology and Art. In addition, children benefit from weekly specialist teaching in Music and P.E., which includes Swimming.
Outside of the classroom, children in Forms 1 and 2 are able to enjoy a wide range of Extra-Curricular Clubs including:
- Sports (seasonal): golf, fencing, archery, cricket, soccer, netball
- Music: choir, ukulele band
- Gardening Club
- Beaver Scouts
Trips and outings, throughout the school year also help to bring the curriculum to life.
In addition, our Edventures Holiday Club, which runs during school holidays, offers an action-packed programme specifically created for children aged four to seven, with activities including arts & crafts and range of sports, as well as performing arts sessions and exciting trips.
