The Bellevue Learning Review of Edenhurst took place on February 5th and 6th, involving two days of lesson observation and interviews with staff, pupils and parents. The Reviews are conducted by Bellevue Heads who take teams of experienced teachers from the group into the schools. Indeed, I was doing the same a few weeks ago at another of the schools. The emphasis is on the development of teaching and learning across all the schools.
The focus of our learning this year, and therefore the focus for the Review, is Pupils’ Engagement in their own learning. Pupils should be clear in their understanding of the purpose of the lesson, presented through clear Learning Intentions. They should be able to explain independently what they need to do in order to progress in their learning. Furthermore, we want pupils to be resilient and independent in their studies and to be able to comment critically on their work.
I’m delighted to report that Bridget Saul, Head of Wandsworth Prep, and her team told us they thoroughly enjoyed meeting everybody and that they gave us ‘full marks’ for the way in which teachers and pupils have embraced the notion of ‘Engagement’. You can read Bridget's report of the visit here.
This is a super note on which to finish this half of term. I hope the children enjoy the week and are able to recharge their batteries ready for the next challenge!
