The
school is extremely well-resourced, having a well-equipped Science laboratory.
The emphasis in teaching is through practical investigation, children first
learning the skills to use the apparatus and later designing their own investigations
based on recognised scientific principles. In the Design Technology studio,
pupils are taught to apply themselves to problem solving using such materials
as wood, plastics and metals.
Work
is linked with other subjects, for example Science and Art, so that continuity
and relevance to the outside world are stressed. A suite of Apple Macintosh
computers serves as the teaching tool for timetabled lessons in Information
Technology. Children learn skills in word processing, graphics, spreadsheet
and database handling so that they may enhance their work across the curriculum
in other subjects. For individual research projects, supervised internet access
is available in the school library, which also houses the book reference section
and many CD-ROMs.
