Music
plays a vital part in life at Edenhurst. It is taught to all pupils as a timetabled
subject. They learn to read music, sing and listen to the works of great composers.
They have the opportunity to play instruments and perform their own compositions.
There are several school choirs which represent the school in music festivals
or perform for parents in large concerts in such venues as The Victoria Hall
and the Potteries Museum. The annual Carol Service takes place at the local
parish church of St. Giles.
Additionally, the orchestra and other instrumental
ensembles are equally busy throughout the year. The school is pleased to be
involved in the community by visiting old people's homes to perform or by
taking part in other local musical projects.
All children start to learn the recorder in class lessons. In this way approximately
one-third of pupils are encouraged to study other instruments, by taking advantage
of the individual tuition available from visiting teachers on a private basis
during schools hours. Instruments offered include piano, violin, cello, guitar,
trumpet, trombone, flute, clarinet and percussion.
