The Reception Class
The majority of our pupils begin their school life in the Nursery, where they are able to join from three months before moving up to Reception usually in the September after their fourth birthday. Other children are able to join the Reception class, providing spaces are available.

In Reception, the teacher is assisted by a qualified member of staff and the children are given a more structured programme, allowing opportunity to move onto National Curriculum work when they are ready. Reading and spelling form part of their first taste of Homework, giving parents an ideal opportunity to be involved in their child’s education with the Homework diaries becoming an ideal forum for communication between parent and school.

Children in Reception also study French, Music, P.E. and Swimming, all with specialist members of the school staff.

There are still lots of opportunities for play and the classes also regularly make trips outside school to museums or other centres of interest while visitors are a common feature providing extra stimulation to topics studied through the year.

Above all, our main priority is to make the first School year enjoyable and productive.
