Nursery (3 months to 4 years)
Edenhurst Nursery in the Westlands provides high quality care for young children aged three months to four years of age in a safe, warm and caring environment. Qualified Nursery Staff are dedicated to the well being of each child. Rooms are equipped to a high standard while outside play areas are covered with safety materials to provide a safe play environment.

Parents can leave their child secure in the knowledge that their child will be receiving the best care possible.

Settling in Procedure
Settling in is an individual process and staff will work in partnership with parents to welcome children into our happy environment. The first visit normally lasts for an hour and you are welcome to stay with your child. At this time there will be ample opportunity to discuss your child’s routine, diet, likes and dislikes and you will be able to ask any questions you may have about Nursery life and routines. Subsequent visits of longer duration are then arranged by the Room Supervisor and may continue until your child is ready to stay for their full session.

Who will be Teaching and Caring for my Child?
The Nursery Manager, Mrs. Lynda Weatherall, NNEB, is supported by two Deputy Managers:

Mrs Nicola West, BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies and Miss Elizabeth Whitmore, BTEC (National Diploma in Childhood Studies), all of whom are very experienced in the field of Childcare.

Each room has a Supervisor with a fully qualified dedicated staff working as a team for the benefit of your child. The supervisors are:

  • Mrs. Nicola West Baby Room
  • Miss Elizabeth Whitmore Toddler Room
  • Mrs. Debby Worgan Explorer Room
  • Mrs. Lynda Weatherall Early Learners Room

The Nursery Day and Curriculum
At Edenhurst Nursery in the Westlands, your child’s welfare and development are of paramount importance. We aim to provide a warm and secure environment in which early learning is enhanced and imaginations are challenged. We believe that a flexible, daily routine with a familiar and recognisable pattern best enables children to feel safe and secure.

Children under the age of two years are individuals who deserve our respect and consideration. Their progress should be monitored in a lively, fun loving way which will, in turn, develop in the children the confidence needed throughout their lives.

Children over the age of two years should be encouraged in their independence, whether that is learning to put on a sweater or holding a paintbrush. If our children are to value themselves they must feel valued by others.

At Edenhurst Nursery we strive to provide the kind of quality curriculum that will allow our children to develop to their full potential. All children's development will be monitored on a regular basis which staff will share with you.

The Early Years Foundation Stage
The Early Years Foundation Stage has at it’s heart four distinct but complementary themes:

  • A Unique Child
  • Positive Relationships
  • Enabling Environments
  • Learning and Development.

A Unique Child recognises that every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. The commitments are focused around development; inclusion; safety; and health and well-being.

Positive Relationships describes how children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person. The commitments are focused around respect; partnership with parents; supporting learning; and the role of the key person.

Enabling Environments explains that the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning. The commitments are focused around observation, assessment and planning; support for every child; the learning environment; and the wider context -transitions, continuity, and multi-agency working.

Learning and Development recognises that children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates, and that all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected.
