Latin at Edenhurst

Our pupils begin their learning of Latin in Prep 1V (Y6) and continue into CE (Y7 & 8).

We feel it is important to teach Latin, so that they

• May better understand English grammar and extend their English vocabulary
• Gain a taste of the language the Romans brought to Britain and so influenced the development of many other languages e.g. French, Spanish, Italian and of course, English
• Gain knowledge of what it was like living under Roman rule, complement work done on the Romans in KS2 and develop an understanding of Roman civilisation

We do much of this through the hugely popular comic strip book Minimus, which tells the story of the mouse that lives at the fort of Vindolanda near Hadrian’s Wall.
